[Roycrofters Rarity] Paradise

Handley, John Sampson. Paradise (A Prose Idyll). New York: Dodge Publishing Company, 1906. (Printed and bound by the Roycrofters in East Aurora, NY.) Inscribed by the author on front endpaper. Printed in black and orange on Japan vellum. Frontispiece by Raymond Nott, borders and ornaments by Samuel Warner. Handley's bookplate (also by Nott) is printed on the page following the colophon. Brown suede with blind stamped label and gilt lettering to front cover, silk doublures. Measures 5.75" x 8". Some fading to suede, wrinkling to suede edges, offsetting to front endpaper.

"Paradise was the second book produced entirely by the Roycrofters for another publisher...[and] remains a difficult title to locate..." (Ogle, OB-118-06). After 10+ years of searching, this is the first time I've encountered this volume. Three institutional holdings in the OCLC (WorldCat).
