Stevenson, Robert Louis. Virginibus Puerisque: An Essay in Four Parts. East Aurora, NY: The Roycrofters, 1903. Bound in full modeled calf, with a beautiful design to front cover, with hand-tooled title and author in gilt at top and bottom. Hand tooled title and author ("Sevenson") to spine. Curiously, the rear of the volume has been personalized by the Roycrofters for Beulah Hood (illuminator, author, and secretary for the Roycroft Shop), with a modeled "BH" design. In addition, a proof pressing of Hood's bookplate, designed by Roycroft artist Raymond Nott has been bound into the volume--with tissue guard--before the title page. Marbled endpapers, top edge gilt. Measures approx. 5.25" x 8". Hinges of volume professionally repaired in places with Japanese tissue. Bumping to corners, some fading to rear cover.
