[Lorenz Schwartz Collection] Venetian Life
Venetian Life
by William Dean Howells. Cambridge: Printed at the Riverside Press, 1907. Two volumes. “Autograph Edition”, limited to 550 copies and designed by Bruce Rogers. Schwartz’s “LS” monogram is present on the rear turn-in, ¼ of the way up the spine on left. Though the forwarding is identical to that of Schwartz's work with The Monastery Hill Bindery, their signature is lacking, which indicates this volume was likely executed independently. Full burgundy morocco with geometric design to covers, accented with inlaid yellow flowers and kelly green leaves, as well as carbon tooling outlining portions of gilt stippling. Spine with six panels, titled in gilt, with the inlaid accents and stippling from the covers carried over; same with turn-ins. T.e.g., fore edge deckled. Purple silk moire endpapers, sewn-in page marker.
