Bound in a satin embroidered binding, with a stunning front cover design of stylized "royal" yellow and orange pomegranates with blue & white plumage, each outlined with a purl of metallic thread. They are surrounded by leaves in various shades of green, with several layers of metallic thread as a purl around the edges of the covers. Spine with four "compartments" and "bands" of metallic thread, with alternating pomegranates and leaves. Patterned black and gilt endpapers. All edges gilt. Measures approx. 4.75" x 6.5". Two gift inscriptions to endpaper. Wear to metallic thread around cover edges, some slightly threadbare spots to spine. A few spots to rear cover. Foxing to frontispiece, tissue, and title page. Page xiii nearly detached (but hanging on).
All of the hallmarks of the very best work from the Royal School of Needlework, but no label present. Regardless, a fantastic example.
