Browning, Robert. The Pied Piper of Hamelin. Printed by T & A Constable; published by Harry Quilter, 1898. Though unnumbered, this diminutive volume originally accompanied the folio edition (sold at 15 guineas together), which was limited to 100 copies, with both volumes printed on English vellum. The content in this "miniature" edition is the same as the folio edition (though it was not issued with the color plates). In addition, there was also a folio edition printed on Japanese vellum, limited to 400 copies, and sold for 5 guineas, along with an unlimited quarto edition.
Each page profusely decorated in black & white by Harry Quilter, and lettered by Mary Quilter. The primary recto illustrations (25 in all) have been lightly hand-colored. Bound in the original publisher's olive green Russia leather, distinctive from the folio edition, with a striking interlocking design of flowers and mice. Top edge gilt. Some fading to spine and edges of covers; light rubbing to corners and edges.
This miniature edition is scarcely encountered, and even less so in this type of condition.
