Ricker, Marilla. The Four Gospels. East Aurora, NY: The Roycrofters, 1911. The book was inscribed by Marilla Ricker with the following: "It requires much hounding to make a dent in the theological views and habits of the people, otherwise the Christian religion would have been eliminated from the world long ago. Yours Very Truly, Marilla M. Ricker". In addition, four pages of manuscript (regarding Robert Ingersoll) have been bound in after page 40. Printed in two colors on Boxmoor paper. Black & white photographic frontispiece. The regular edition was bound in paper over boards with a leather spine.
Bound in dark brown crushed levant morocco with gilt scroll work borders emanating from the two bands at spine, and accented with sixteen small white morocco inlays (now faded). Title in gilt to top of spine, author to bottom. Wide turn-ins with gilt-ruled borders, with brown watered silk doublures and endpapers. Top edge gilt. Measures 4.5" x 7.25". Some light spots of rubbing, gilt to top edge toned. Folds of outer edges of the manuscript pages bound in have led to splitting (though still intact).
